Any skincare expert will tell you one of the most powerful ways to maintain a healthy skin regimen is by exfoliating your skin. As we age, our skin becomes increasingly susceptible to damage, allowing fine lines, dark spots, and texture to form – this is where an exfoliator comes into play. Its primary duty is to resurface the skin, eliminating dead skin cells, while revealing a super clear, radiant appearance.
I’ve always been a die-hard fan of exfoliating every inch of my face. My skin type is dry and flaky, which, depending on the season, can amp up irritation. Exfoliation is the rescue treatment I lean on during these difficult times.
Two types of exfoliators exist: chemical and physical. While I could dive into discussing the pros/cons of each one (I’ll save that for another day), my ultimate skin savior and product I can’t stop raving about lies within the chemical realm.
Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Extra Strength Daily Peel Pads aka my most shared secret for velvety smooth skin manages to tick off all the boxes in my checklist:
- A perfect blend of acids (AHA’s and BHA’s)? Yup.
- Non-toxic ingredients? Yup.
- Leaves my skin clear? Yup.
- Reduces discoloration? You bet.
- Improves texture? Hell, yes.
Read below to discover all the amazing benefits these mighty chemical peel pads have to offer and why you need to get on board stat:
It Provides a No-Fail Application Process
The treatment breaks down into an easy 2-step process. Just tear the packaging from Step 1 and massage the pad all over your face (I also apply it to my neck). Wait a few minutes, then repeat the same process but with Step 2. Follow up with a hydrating moisturizer or face oil.
I don’t think it can get much simpler than that.
Unlike other chemical exfoliators, Dr. Dennis Gross takes the guesswork out of the application process, leaving no room for grey areas. Have I applied too much product? Too little? Do I rinse my face with water? You can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing these questions are not applicable here.
Again, this is a testament to the packaging. Each treatment is individually wrapped in recyclable packaging, making it a breeze to slip inside your purse or carry-on luggage. There’s no need to stress about spillage, liquid requirements, or fragile containers. Whether you’re traveling by bus, plane, or car, it’s got that take-and-go attitude designed for any form of travel.
It Leads to Visible Results, Quick
I started noticing results within a matter of days, but your experience could be different, depending on your skin type. The key is to remain consistent. Stubborn skin concerns like dullness, fine lines, pores, and uneven skin tone are swiftly tackled. I thank the innovative 2 step process for the results I’m able to maintain continuously.
Here’s the magic: Step 1 solely focuses on exfoliating the skin by incorporating a unique blend of AHA’s (glycolic and lactic acids) and BHA (salicylic acid), while Step 2 neutralizes the effects from Step 1.
Now listen carefully – this part’s important. Because the acids carry a hefty punch, it is imperative to offset the impacts from Step 1 (hint: use Step 2 to do this) to stop the exfoliation process from persisting. Failing to do so could lead to an adverse skin reaction. Moral of the story – don’t skip out on Step 2!
Ingredients We Love
Glycolic and Salicylic Acid: Fight acne, supports collagen production, and improves the appearance of the skin.
Lactic Acid: Targets dullness and uneven skin tone.
Retinol: A powerhouse for anti-aging benefits. Increases cell turnover, leaves skin soft and smooth, and address hyperpigmentation.
Resveratrol: An impressive antioxidant that protects against environmental factors and helps boost overall skin brightness.
What Skin Type Benefits from Dr. Dennis Gross Peel Pads?
Most skin types are suitable for this treatment, including normal, combination, dry, and oily. However, I would err on the side of caution if you have sensitive skin and opt for the Ultra Gentle Facial Peels when starting out. Always do a patch test first before swiping the product across your face to avoid flare-ups. When you feel ready to take things up a notch and depending on your skin sensitivity, you can always upgrade to the Universal version.
Note: I started with the Universal version and worked my way up to Extra-Strength. Though, I don’t recommend starting with Extra-Strength, especially if you’re new to this product or have never received a facial peel.
A best practice is to gradually wean your way into using these kinds of exfoliators or speak with your derm to find out which option is most apt for your skin. I’m pretty content with exfoliating twice a week, but you might want to go for something more or less. Regardless, happy skin days are ahead!
