Before we dive into discovering everything about Kosas makeup, let me just preface this by stating how unprecedented this is for me.
Typically, I discover one or two products from a beauty brand that I’ll incorporate into my routine. It’s difficult for me to commit to more than this because I have never found an entire line that I obsess over.
It was by sheer chance (I like to call it fate) that I discovered Kosas. It was during their early days when the only product they were selling was lipsticks. I was painfully searching in my browser for a clean beauty lipstick but had precise criteria. It had to be high-performing, have huge color-payoff, and lasting power. Not to mention, the tone needed to be warm, to complement my medium-darker skin.
I wasn’t getting the results I wanted. Frustration and a seed of doubt began to sink in, “was I too picky?”.
Rather than giving up, I forged ahead, determined to find the one. Several page scrolls later, Kosas appeared. I immediately purchased Fringe (yes, it’s still my top pick today) – and have been on a quest to learn everything about Kosas Makeup since then. To say I’m hooked would be an understatement.
The brainchild of Sheena Yaitanes, Kosas, has successfully expanded into several other categories, since then. The products speak for themselves, and their messaging (IMHO) is clear: we must rethink and strengthen the relationship between makeup and skincare. As an avid consumer, I can safely say their products stand out across the board.
From the sleek packaging to the texture, shade range, and skin benefits, you instantly get a sense that there is meaningful intent behind every item Kosas blesses us with. Not to mention, the products are a minimalists dream. Quick, on-the-go beauty that doesn’t require a whole lot of effort to look put together. Kosas is innovative—an industry disruptor. And just simply deliver outstanding, high-quality products. Period.
Here’s Everything You Need to Know About Kosas Makeup:
What is Kosas Makeup?
Kosas is a beauty brand, helmed in sunny California. What started as strictly makeup products like fiery red lipsticks and bronzy blushers has now quickly diversified into other areas, with a new focus on products that can keep up with an active lifestyle, as found in their latest addition: Chemistry deodorant.
It’s refreshing to see a brand that strives to include everyone in the beauty conversation, one that isn’t afraid to take risks. You won’t find the typical pinks, cursive writing, or overtly feminine branding. Kosas aims to be universal, showcasing men and women, young and old- tapping into a niche that’s often overlooked, yet equally important.
Is Kosas Cruelty-Free?
Yes. Kosas is leaping bunny certified, which means their products are never tested on animals. They are also considered to be one of Sephora’s Clean beauty brands – which, if you didn’t know, is not the easiest of tasks to achieve. Companies that are bestowed with this title have to adhere to several strict standards, ensuring a laundry list of harmful ingredients is nowhere to be found.
Kosas Tinted Face Oil
Described as the “sweatpants of foundation,” Tinted Face Oil (TFO) is for anyone who wants an even canvas, minus the cakey texture that routinely comes with a heavy foundation. The texture is unlike any foundation I’ve used in the past; it’s akin to a serum. The blend of six oils makes it virtually weightless, gliding so effortlessly across the face. It is a genuine “your skin but better” product. A total of 10 TFO’s are available at the moment, each matching to a specific undertone. As for me, I’m usually Tone 7 but will switch to Tone 7.5 in the summer months.
How to use:
TFO is a genius, fool-proof product. There’s no way you can mess up the application. Just shake the bottle a few times to re-blend the oils and pigments, add a few drops onto your hands (I like 3-4, but you can always add more for fuller coverage) and massage it into your skin. No tools required.
Kosas Weightless Lipstick
The OG. Weightless Lipstick is everything I want and more. First, let’s talk about color. One swipe gives you immediate full coverage. The shades are designed to flatter all skin tones—a bold statement, I know, but couldn’t be more accurate. Once applied, it feels incredibly nourishing on the lips thanks to the mango seed and shea butter. But does it last? Oh, yes. I’ve worn Fringe and Electra from morning till night, throughout drinks, meals – it doesn’t budge.
How to use:
For full impact, swipe the lipstick directly from the tube onto your lips. For a subtler look, I like to dab a bit onto my ring finger and pat gently on my lips.
Kosas Color and Light Palette – Cream Blush
The Color and Light Palette is an equal part blush and highlighter designed to add an ethereal, lit-from-within glow to your face. Color shades come in peach, pink, and bronze (which are the only colors you should ideally stick to for the most favorable outcome). Plus, the fact that Kosas offers warm, cool-toned, and high-intensity blushes means most, if not all of us, can reap the benefits.
I use Tropic Equinox daily and utterly love how easily it melts into my skin, using just my fingertips. The product is versatile, no doubt. I like to use the bronzer on my eyelids for a slight wash of color, or if I’m feeling extra fancy, I’ll dab a tiny bit of highlighter onto my lips once lipstick is applied, to really make the look pop.
How to use:
Using your fingers, lightly dab the highlighter across the highpoints of your face (think cheekbones) and areas you want to enhance (think cupid’s bow). Add blush to the apples of your cheeks. If you’re keen on intensifying the look, you can always go in with another layer.
Kosas 10-Second Eyeshadow
I need my makeup routine to be quick, efficient – because I’m always on-the-go. 10-second eyeshadow is my answer. The name says it all. The quick-drying liquid formula means I don’t have to fuss too much with the application process.
The colors are vibrant and fun, suiting nearly any mood and outfit. You can seriously let your imagination run wild and produce such diverse looks – you’ll never get bored. Nitrogen– a cobalt blue- could be used as a liner for a fresh, edgy look, while Globe could sit by itself or layer seamlessly on top of another color (like Element) for more drama. I mean, at its core, isn’t this what makeup is all about – to give us full- freedom to play with color, style, techniques, and enable our creative choices? I think so.
How to use:
Shake the tube until you hear a clicking sound (these are the metal balls that help re-mix the product). Sweep the doefoot applicator across your eyelids and blend using your fingers or eyeshadow brush.
Pro Tip: If you find the product is separating or creasing on your eyelid (this can happen if the Mica particles are quite large, like in Supreme), sweep setting powder across your eyelids before applying the eyeshadow. That should do the trick.
Kosas Revealer Concealer
Described as “a lightbulb for your face” and one of the newer additions to the family, Revealer Concealer is an incredibly creamy, medium-to-full coverage concealer designed to brighten the appearance of dark circles and blemishes. It’s packed with a chock full of skin-loving ingredients like peptides and hyaluronic acid, which help to plump up the skin. Arnica’s skin-soothing properties provide a cooling effect while instantly de-puffing the tired, delicate eye area. But most importantly, your skin looks and feels like skin. Use as much or as little as you want; your skin will remain happy.
How to use:
Use the doefoot applicator to apply anywhere you want coverage. Blend using your fingers or makeup sponge.
